When derefer.me was launched in 2008 it wasn’t the first of its kind, but it offered features apparently not found anywhere else – in particular the option to customize redirect pages without thwarting the dereferring function.
I’ve been committed to keep this personal project ad-free and not share any user data with third parties. But costs increased and so I asked people not to use derefer.me anymore in 2013. There are other dereferring services and there is wide browser support for HTML5’s rel="noreferrer"
attribute now.
As I had hoped, use of this service has decreased to almost zero since then. Therefore I think it is fine to shut derefer.me down and will do so on 1 July 2019.
Thanks
